BIG does not necessarily always mean best when it comes to gardens.

This weekend it was the turn of Ludlow’s small gardens to delight the town's residents.

This was due to the Festival of Small Gardens that has established itself as part of the Ludlow calendar of events.

The event is a follow up to the Ludlow Secret Gardens event that takes place earlier in the summer and is largely dominated by bigger gardens in the more affluent parts of the town.

However, the Small Gardens Festival is open to more modest plots and demonstrates that even if size matters biggest does not have to be best.

Gardeners this year have been helped by a sunny and warm summer.

Both the secret gardens and the small gardens events raise money for the Ludlow Assembly Rooms.
