ON December 10 the president of Norbury WI, Rita Preston welcomed members to the 2014 Christmas party.

After a brief business meeting everyone enjoyed a meal prepared by the committee. The tables, looking very festive with decorations made by several members.

Entertainment was provided by John Crowe, The Ukulele Man. His amazing talent was plain to see and hear; from a young boy his playing and love of the ukulele and banjo ukulele leading him to become a member of The George Formby Society. John told interesting anecdotes of George Formby’s colourful life, including his amazing wealth and love of luxury cars. John has met many famous people which included friend, the late George Harrison whom he knew from 1991-2001. The entertainment ended with a communal sing-a-long, which was great fun.

Unusually, this year the competition cup was a three way split between Rita Preston, sisters, Jane Pugh and Wendy Oakley. Past president June Pinches, presented the cup wishing all three many congratulations to all three members.

Raffle prizes were in abundance and lots of us went home with a prize. Thanks were given to all who made this happy, lively event possible.

Next Meeting is on January 8, 7.30pm at Norbury Village Hall, SY9 5EA. The speaker is Val Littlehales on The Legend of Trees, visitors welcome.
