CARTS will once again be rolling down Hanway Common at Richards Castle this Sunday (July 3) raising cash for local charities.

More than 30 entries have been received including regulars and locals ‘Teme Treasure’, reigning champion ‘C12’, ‘Team Chuckle Racing’ as well as some new carts from further afield including ‘Portlebay Drive By’ from Devon and ‘Acceleramus’ from London.

Run by local volunteers since 2004, Richards Castle Soap Box Derby has raised nearly £80,000 for local charities.

This year funds raised will go to Close House (Hereford), Orleton Youth Club, and Dreamcatcher Children’s Charitable fund.

The gates open at 10am, children under 16 are free making this a great family day out to see the thrills of Soap Box racing.

The day has a packed programme of entertainment from The Welsh Axemen, Lawn Mower racing, Ludlow Autograss, Vintage Scramblers, bouncy castle, face painting and an array of food and drink.

“We have a good entry of soap boxes this year, plus we have created a special prize for the ‘Best themed soap box celebrating HM The Queen’s 90th Birthday’ so hope to see some soap boxes fit for queen,” said committee member Kate Pearce.
