TENBURY MP Harriett Baldwin has backed ambitious plans to encourage more people to use bikes as part of a national funding bid.
The MP has met with Worcestershire County Council leader Simon Geraghty and chief executive Clare Marchant to call for them to build a blueprint to encourage more cycling and better routes for two wheel road users.
Harriett Baldwin has also written in support of the council’s national bid for £1.5 million in funding to improve cycle routes across Worcestershire.
“It's great to see the county council backing cycling in this way,” she said.
“Over the past decade, cycling has become increasingly popular both as a spectator sport and also as a healthy activity for local people.
“We are fortunate to have some great quiet rural roads and a famous series of hill climbs across the county but more people would cycle rather than drive if the roads were friendlier to bikes.
“I am keen to see the county look at how we can make it easier for people to choose two wheels both for commuting and leisure cycling and I have supported its bid for funding to improve local cycle routes.
“It's great that the county has ambitious plans and hope that we are able to help more people choose cycling."
