PRICE rises could be coming for a busy car park in Tenbury Wells.

A consultation has been launched by Malvern Hills District Council, which intends to make an order to vary the Malvern Hills off-street parking places civil enforcement order.

The proposed amendment will see the cost of parking at the town's Teme Street car park rise.

The council said the cost of a 24-hour stay at the Teme Street site rise from £3 to £4, while evening operating hours tariffs in operation from 4pm to 8am will rise from £1.50 to £2.

Seven-days stay permits will rise from £9 to £12, the council said.

The scale of charge for resident annual permits will also rise from £25 to £30, the consultation said.

The increased charges will also affect other car parks in the Malvern Hills District Council area, with some other changes also proposed for other car parks in the council's area.

Malvern Hills District Council has also published a statement of reasons for the changes proposed for Tenbury's Teme Street car park.

The council said the cost of a 24-hour stay would be rising in order to offset operational costs and maintenance expenses associated with providing 24-hour parking services and ensuring "sustainable and effective management of parking facilities".

The 50p rise to evening operating hours tariffs is being proposed to "align with market rates, cover operational expenses and support the financial sustainability of the parking service", the council said.

And the increase to the cost of a seven-day permit will "off-set operational costs and maintenance expenses associated with providing 24-hour parking services, ensuring sustainable and effective management of parking facilities".

Malvern Hills District Council said the proposed changes aim to balance the needs of the community, the operational costs of maintaining parking facilities, and the goal of creating a "fair and efficient parking system that meets the diverse requirements of users".
