MANY people in Tenbury once again did their bit by keeping the town tidy.

Volunteers from the Keep Tenbury Clean and Green Community Group on Facebook got together to sweep their streets as part of the national Great British Spring Clean campaign.

Carol Ludwig, who set up the group, has been litter-picking in the town for the past 10 years.

"A few years ago, Malvern Hills District Council started to adopt a street whereby if you pledge to pick in your area at least four times a year you are provided with a litter picker, gloves a yellow Hi-Viz and bin bags," she said.

"I told friends and others about the scheme. People saw me litter-picking and I told them too.

"In 2022, I started the Facebook group so that we could keep in touch and set group picks like the Keep Britain Spring Clean that took place.

"We have had a few children get their Blue Peter Badge by litter picking and  Duke of Edinburgh scheme. I now have 300 people on the Facebook page.

"Some of them pick on their own or with their families but I have 10 who regularly meet to do a pick.  We walk around Burford, Berrington and along the A456 to the Peacock Inn.

"We are very proud of what we do for the community and I do think that we have made a difference to how Tenbury looks.  Very little litter is now dropped in the town.

"I have met some wonderful friends through starting this group and you get a real sense of community.  It certainly keeps you fit too."

This year, Keep Britain Tidy is celebrating its 70th birthday.

A spokesperson said: "The good news is that litter-picking is a simple action that anyone can do.

"It makes an immediate and visible difference to the environment where we live, work and play.  In fact, around 95 per cent of people surveyed after 2023's campaign agreed they felt they had made a difference to their local area, and 91 per cent said they felt part of a national movement that is taking action to tackle litter."
