AN all-girl team from a Ludlow accountancy firm have been doing their bit for injured war servicemen and woman.

Staff from local accountants and auditors, Dyke Ruscoe and Hayes Ltd, based in Corve Street competed in the internationally famous Cumbrian Challenge, raising money for Walking with the Wounded, a charity which supports injured forces veterans.

The all-girl team – who were joined by a friend after one of the staff had to pull out through injury – came third in their category, out of a total of 82 teams. Better still, they raised more than £1,400 for the charity, as well as having a wonderful time.

Success was not easy though: for months before the event, the girls spent almost every weekend practising and their families have been relieved to have them back at home after so much hard work.

“Although I’ve lived all my life in Ludlow I’ve never really walked much in the local countryside – so I had a lot to learn,” said Sharon Reeves who works as office manager.

Rachel Watkins, whose idea it was to take up the challenge, said her only disappointment was that Prince Harry, who plays a prominent part in the charity, wasn’t able to make the event.

“It was lovely though to see the positive attitude of some of those the charity has supported," she said. "It made all the effort really worthwhile.”
