SUZANNE Turvey broke a record in helping Croft Ambrey to victory in the team event in the Herefordshire Summer Off Road League series at Westhope.

The flying doctor made a telling impact and secured the highest position achieved by a female runner in the history of the Herefordshire Summer League.

It could be one of Suzanne’s final appearances in the sky blue colours of Croft Ambrey before she heads off to London to pursue a medical career.

She was 15th in the overall race and, as in the previous two races of the series, the leading female runner proved to be the decisive in the team standings.

Turvey imposed herself on the women’s race and romped home nearly two-and-a half minutes clear of her rivals.

Croft Ambrey took the team honours with Turvey and Stacey Morgan, who was third overall, well supported by important contributions from Simon Norwood, another runner selected for international triathlon duty, in a fine sixth place and the improving Sam Mayglothling in a best-ever eighth place.

Thomas Powell, who was 35th, was the first home for Ludlow Runners’, while club-mate Dan Pavitt was 37th in the penultimate race of the series organised by Hereford Couriers.

Hereford Couriers Eliot Taylor chalked up his third successive league victory as he continued his domination in the series.

The early pace was dictated by the leading runners from the three top clubs in the league with Taylor, Dan

King of Wye Valley Runners and Croft Ambrey’s Morgan contesting the lead as they built a big gap over the chasing group.

Morgan dropped off the pace but Taylor and King continued their battle until King finally cracked on the final climb just half-a-mile from the finish, leaving Taylor to cruise victory 18 seconds clear of King.

King registered his best ever league placing, with Morgan a further 26 seconds adrift.
