THE two leading football teams in Tenbury are celebrating after both advanced to another semi-final at the weekend.

Tenbury Town thrashed Tupsley 4-1 in the HFA Burghill Cup to ensure they have made at the least the last four of three cup competitions.

Bob Sumner’s team have already made the final of the Worcestershire Minor Cup and the HFA Junior Cup and will be hoping for a third shoot-out when they face Bromyard on February 14. And Tenbury United are also through to another semi-final after overcoming Wellington Reserves on penalties in the HFL Clubsport Cup following a dramatic 4-4 draw.

That triumph comes on the back of them securing their place in the last four of the HFL Senior Cup following a 5-0 triumph against Pegasus Reserves. Tenbury Town spokesman Carl Lambert said the win against Tupsley was “scrappy” but he was delighted that the team secured the win.

“We ground out a result,” he said.

“The pitch was awful and we struggled to get our game going and were a bit wasteful in front of goal. But there was only going to be one winner and we were pleased it was us.”

Alex Bright opened the scoring for Town after 30 minutes before Adam Everall made it 2-0 just before half-time.

Tupsley pulled a goal back after the break but Town upped a gear and secured the win with goals from Alex Lombardi and Chris Patton.

Robbie Farrar was Tenbury United’s hero meanwhile when he saved three Wellington Reserves penalties. The victory means United will again play Pegasus Reserves when the two meet in the semi-final on February 7.

Earlier, Ryan Morris grabbed a hat-trick in a match that had everything. He opened the scoring in the first half when he scored from a tight angle before Dan Gittens doubled the lead in rather fortuitous circumstances. His 30-yard shot hit a divot just in front of the Wellington goalkeeper and bounced over his head.

But United failed to seal the win and the home side levelled the match. Morris restored his side’s advantage with eight minutes to go but there was still time for Wellington to equalise once again. In extra-time, Morris sealed his hat-trick before Wellington scored again.

But it was Tenbury who were celebrating after winning the penalty shoot-out 4-1.

“When it went to penalties I didn’t hold out much hope because our record over the last few years has been dreadful,” said joint Tenbury United manager Nick Stocker.

“But the boys held their nerve "
