BRYN Martin was Woofferton’s extra-time hero as they made hark work of overcoming Bartestree Reserves in the first round of HFA?Junior Cup.

The villagers finally prevailed 3-2 after the extra half-an-hour and now make the trip to Ewyas Harold Reserves this coming weekend in the second round.

Woofferton, boasting three wins out of four in Division One, were quickly out of the blocks and appeared to have taken a firm grip against the lower-league opponents when Dave Nash bagged a neat brace inside the first 15 minutes.

But plucky Bartestree, who play in Division Two, refused to buckle and hit back with some decent football. By half-time they had levelled things up at 2-2.

Despite some ebb-and-flow action there were no goals in a competitive second half, and it wasn’t until the second period of extra time that goalscorer Nash turned provider with a run and cross that Martin fired home to win it.

Holme Lacy took advantage of Woofferton’s cup commitment to take over as the new Division One leaders in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League with a 3-2 triumph at Orleton Colts Reserves.

They scored in the dying minutes to secure all three points and disappointed Colts Reserves player-boss Chris Albert admitted: “A draw would have been a fair result – we certainly didn’t deserve to lose.”

Colts twice came from behind, with Man of the Match Kieron Powys responsible for two spectacular equalisers. He let fly with a screamer into the top corner to level the first time, and then came up with a sublime free-kick to make it 2-2.

Lacy’s late winner meant that there was no time for Powys to chase a possible hat-trick.

Colts Reserves look to bounce back when they host Kingstone Harriers at the Recreation Ground this weekend.

Orleton’s first team, without a fixture last weekend, resume their Premier Division programme with a trip to Hinton.
