BISHOP'S Castle claimed the bragging rights after securing a winning draw against neighbours Church Stretton in Division Two of the Shropshire League.

Stretton skipper Peter Lee won the toss but put the visitors into bat.

Castle opener Richard Plant looked secure on 26 before being bowled by Keith Yapp (2-39) who had earlier taken the wicket of fellow opener Richard Fifield.

But Jonathan Price then produced a fine innings, hitting 53 before falling to Gabriel Williams.

Of the remaining batsmen, just Edgar Whately (24) and Rhys Evans (11) reached double figures as the visitors chalked up 164-8 from their 40 overs. Adam Groom (3-37) was the pick of the bowlers.

In reply, Stretton openers Lee and Rob Whittall (10) made a steady start but once the latter had been bowled by Thomas Moulder, the innings collapsed.

Skipper Lee (15no) carried his bat but nobody else reached double figures and they managed to reach just 56-8 at the end of their overs ensuring Bishop's Castle took the bulk of the points.

In Division Three, Corvedale were convincing seven-wicket winners at home to Shifnal 3rd with Harry Aldridge starring with both bat and ball.

Put into bat, Shifnal were soon in trouble with Aldridge (3-25) and Sher Muhammad Zahid (3-33) sending both openers back to the pavilion with the score still in single figures.

Tom Gough (29) was the only batsman to get his eye in until the arrival of Sam Webster who hit an impressive 45no to help take the score from 40-8 to 142-9.

In reply, an excellent opening stand from Adam WIlliams (22) and Paul Mantle (45) gave Corvedale a solid start but it was Aldridge who steered them over the line, his unbeaten 52 taking them to 147-3 with four overs to spare.

Also in Division Three, Ludlow 3rd lost by seven wickets at Trysull and Seisdon.

In Reserve Division One, Ludlow 2nd lost at Wellington 4th by 55 runs even though skipper Simon Miles hit an impressive 44 and Josh Williams and Jake Wilkes took three wickets apiece.

There was a seven-wicket defeat for Bishops Castle 2nd at home to Newtown 2nd in Reserve Division Three while Corvedale 2nd lost by 124 runs at Acton Reynald 2nd.

Over in Division Three of the Worcestershire League, Cleobury Mortimer secured an impressive seven-wicket victory over visitors Barnards Green 3rd.

Three wickets apiece from Sam Evans (3-48) and Ben Griffiths (3-15) ensured the visitors were all out for 163 and the home side reached their target in just 36 overs, helped by a fine unbeaten 91 from star turn Griffiths.

Tenbury Wells 2nd secured a winning draw at Old Elizabethans 4th with Chris Giles (63) top scoring while Ian Taylor took 5-40.

Knighton-on-Teme lost their Marches League Division Two match at home to Brockhampton 3rd by four wickets after being skittled out for just 73.
