BISHOP’S CASTLE had to settle for a winning draw in their Shropshire County League clash fixture with Wheaton Aston.

The home side posted 131-6 in the Division Two meeting before the away side closed on 116-7.

Andrew Lewis top score for Castle with 30 while wicketkeeper batsman Jonathan Price added 24. Nathan Whittingham kept the hosts under wraps with 5-23.

But in favourable bowling conditions the away side were soon under pressure as Jack Poulton and Thomas Moulder took early wickets.

However, skipper Whittingham offered stubborn resistance with 20 as did Jason Corr with 22. Corr finally went to Lewis who grabbed 3-15 from his seven overs but he could not dislodge David Sable who was there at the end unbeaten on 22.

Church Stretton were six-wicket winners at home to Willey thanks largely to Saif Khalid.

The all-rounder took 4-7 from four overs as the visitors were restricted to 92-9 in their 40 overs while Todd Cornhels took 4-4 from 13 overs which included nine maidens.

Khalid then led from the top with the bat making 37 as three wickets for Glen Edwards made life difficult for the home side who needed more than 37 overs to reach their winning target.

In Division Three, Corvedale were dismissed for just 49 with Calverhall reaching 51-3 while Ludlow 3rd were 36-0 in reply to Church Aston’s 224-8 was rain intervened.

In Reserve Division Three Corvedale 2nds (101-8) lost to Lilleshall 4ths 102-4.
