IT’S been a busy time for Ludlow Castle Motor Club members who have had a busy few weeks tackling a range of events.

Historic Road Rally competitor Simon Mellings wheeled out his Nissan Stanza and notched up three solid results taking seventh overall on the Hughes Rally in Kent and the Leukaemia Rally based in Chepstow before his best finish of the year with third overall on the East Anglia Rally. He currently leads his class in the Historic Rally Car Register Championship.

Meanwhile co-driver Jez Rogers from Bridgnorth has been competing on the JRT Enville stages based at the Anglesey Race Circuit. Jez was alongside ex Hill Climb and Sprint driver Mark Smith in his MkII Ford Escort, on only his second rally.

After four stages the pair were very happy to be sixth overall, unfortunately a misfire saw them drop to tenth after six stages.

Gee Atherton and Keaton Williams resumed their pursuit of class honours on the British Rally Championship when they tackled the Scottish Rally in Gee’s Ford Fiesta. They were lying 64th overall and first in class when the gearbox forced them into retirement.

Welsh Rally Championship regulars Tim Cains/Richard May and Colin/Martin Griffiths were out on the Builth Wells-based Nicky Grist Stages, both crews hoping to build on their early season successes. Martin Griffiths and May currently leads their class with drivers Cains and Colin Griffiths both lying second in class so all to play for.

Suspension damage put paid to Cains and May’s chances but for Griffiths/Griffiths however it proved to be a successful weekend as they took their BMW Compact to 46th overall taking a good haul of championship points, sufficient in fact for Martin Griffiths to take the Championship Class win for 2016.
