BISHOP’S Castle ran out comprehensive eight-wicket winners against Cae Glas in Division Two of the Shropshire County League

Having won the toss they restricted their guests to 83-5 in 40 overs.

Richard Powell (2-22) and Thomas Moulder (2-19) kept the visitors in in check with some miserly bowling and Paul Moulder also got himself in the wickets column. Danny Percy’s 26 eventually helped Cae Glas to a total which never seemed likely to be of trouble to Castle and that was how it turned out.

Andrew Lewis was unbeaten on 28 and fellow opener Richard Plant made 20 with Nick Broadbent taking a consolation two wickets, victory being achieved in the 18th over.

Shrewsbury 3rd proved to be too strong for Church Stretton as they chalked up a 128-run win.

Stephen Froggatt top-scored with 61 as the hosts made 192-8 with Peter Lee and Gabriel Williams taking two wickets each.

It was more than enough as Will Sharpe (3-20), Lewis Evans (3-8) and Henry Bedford (3-3) made light work of the Stretton batting, Ben Crump’s 20 the only score of any note.

In Division Three, a comfortable win for Corvedale who proved too strong for Llanidloes.

Dave Bradley made an unbeaten 77 as the home side cruised to a nine-wicket win.

That came after the visitors were bowled out for 93 in the 32nd over, Ryan Jones top scoring with 22. Brian Williams took 3-1 before Simon Wilcox’s 3-0 in 1.4 overs finished things off.

It then took Corvedale 20 overs to reach their target .

Ian Alderson batted throughout as Corvedale 2nd scored an equally efficient win, bowling out Llanidloes for 111 despite Edward Denham’s 58. But sadly for the Corvedale skipper he finished seven short of a century while Russell Wilcox added 53 out of 224-5.

In the Worcestershire County League Division Three, a thriller at Rushwick where Cleobury Mortimer were beaten by one wicket in a high-scoring encounter.

Batting first, the visitors racked up 254-9 thanks largely to Michael Green’s 91 and 41 for Ben Griffiths.

The game looked done and dusted as Harry Booton (2-63), Ed Kemp (3-56) and Griffiths (2-29) and the home side nine down and seemingly out. But the 10 and 11 partnership of Clive Jones (27) and Matt Chapman (36) were the heroes for Rushwick.

In the Marches League Division Two, Knighton-on-Teme posted 164-9 against Brockhampton 3rd but slipped to a five-wicket defeat.

In the South Shropshire Twenty20 League there were wins for Clee Hill over Cleobury Mortimer and Tenbury against Pencombe.
