LUDLOW Golf Club’s Harry Lines won his third successive club championship last weekend. His winning score of 144 was enough to pip runner-up Darren Humphries by just one shot.

Humphries’ excellent approach shot to the back right pin position on the 18th just rolled off the back of the green and he failed to make a tricky up-and-down to force a play-off. George Watton finished a further shot back in third place with a score of 146.

Club president John Bown won the George Duncan Putter which is awarded for the best 36-hole nett score over the championship weekend. His score of 138 was three shots clear of runner-up John Evans.

The Junior Scratch Cup was won by Nathan Herdsfield with a score of 155 and the Junior Cup awarded to the best 36-hole nett score was won by junior captain Johnathan Price who recovered from a poor first round with a nett 64 in the second round for a total of 142

John Phillips won the Seniors August roll-up with a score of 39pts. His score was matched by Richard Edwards who was beaten into second place by a better back-nine score.

At Cleobury Mortimer, there was a high level of competition as the club held their second Junior Open.

After a four-under gross on the weekend, club member Jack Severn led the gross and the nett with a two-over-par 70 and gross 69. Constance Brooks of Gaudet Luce also had a solid round, shooting an 80 gross to pick up the best girls' gross prize.

The best scores of the day would be taken by the very last group out, with Mark Hewlett scoring a nett 67 to win the boys' nett prize. However the girls' nett prize and overall champion was won by Charlotte Helme of The Grove, who shot a 66 nett to lift the Junior Open Trophy.

There was another personal best for 15-year-old Jack Severn with a gross 67 (44 pts) in the weekend stableford, his lowest ever round at Cleobury.

Jack was one of the first to sign up for lessons with club pro Dave Pain back in March and his hard work is paying off as he is down to three handicap.

The score of 44, however, was not enough for Jack to win the competition, Ian Orme also shooting a personal best 44 points, including 24 on the back nine, to snatch first place from Jack on count back.
