Peter Monk found the winning habit at Ludlow GC during the club’s Weekend of Golf.

The event got underway on Friday where more than 400 competitors took part.

The three-day event kicked off with our Open Texas Scramble on Friday which was won by Phil Kinder and partner Monk - both Ludlow members), Phil Dyke and N Dyke.

Their winning score of 53.35 was just enough to edge out runners-up P Hutton, B Turner, D Jackson and J Mauldridge who scored 53.6.

Captain John Harris and junior captain Jonathan Price played a near perfect round in Saturday’s Open Betterball Stableford.

They scored a fantastic 49pts to finish six points ahead of a field of 84 pairs having only entered on the morning of the event to make up the numbers.

The best gross score of 37pts was recorded by Sam Stanley and Rich Hartwell from Penn Golf Club. Second nett went to C Middleton and R Hill who scored 43pts.

There was success for Stourbridge team in the Mixed Open Am-Am

The Mixed Open leader-board was full of Ludlow teams with the exception of the winning team from Stourbridge.

Roger and Cynthia Hardeman and George and Hazel Reynolds scored 76pts to finish one point clear of three Ludlow teams on 75pts.

Val Alexander and Margaret Harris won the Mary Black Cup (handicaps up to 20) at the county summer meeting wth a combined score of 155. They did this despite only being a team of two, instead of three

The summer conditions were well and truly on show at Cleobury Mortimer GC for the men’s stableford.

The near perfect weather and the course looking spectacular meant a good score was out there for the taking and Bob Barlow, fresh from winning division two in the seniors competitions, continued his fine form with 39 points to finish third and see his handicap cut to 21.8.

Rob Winnall showed what a crazy game golf is. Last week he finished bottom of division one with 27 points and this week he won it with 40 points to see him edging ever closer to single figures.

The day, however, belonged to Neil Brydon who had his best ever round at Cleobury on his way to a huge 43 points and reach his lowest ever handicap of 17.

Neil said: “I have been working with Dave Pain (Cleobury golf pro and director of golf) on my driving and today it went really well, I didn't miss many fairways which makes the game a lot easier. There are some big competitions coming up soon and I hope to be in the mix.”
