JOSH Rowbotham, Harry King and Alex Barnes successfully defended Cleobury Mortimer Golf Club’s John Lacey Memorial Texas Scramble with a little help from junior Jack Severn.

The trio of 18-year-old players were joined by Severn, 15, to produce a near-flawless performance in the 25-team event.

On some fast, lush fairways, the weather behaved itself to assist some good golf but as the wind picked up, it soon became apparent that any 50-plus score would more than likely secure a prize-winning place.

The winning quartet’s triumph was made all the more impressive by their low handicaps with the exception of King who played off 15.

Rowbotham said: “Three out of the four of us were in the winning team last year and Jack was a great replacement for us.

“He holed some crucial putts after we had started slowly. All of us came to life on the back nine and it was a great day.”
